Darling, Be Home Soon

As she prepared for her evening out,
He thought about what happened today.
A tear trickled down his cheek,
As he new what must be done?
Waiting he wondered how to tell her,
The one he loves most that his time is near.

She walked into the living room,
Dressed so stunning, he smiles so brightly.
Seeing the warmth of his smile,
A thought crosses her mind,
Is she dong the right thing by going out?
But she knows that he is all right with it.

Her friends arrive to pick her up,
As the evening of the party is now at hand.
He clears his dry throat,
As she nears the door to leave,
But stops short, winking back his way,
And now he utters these words so sweet.

Darling, be home soon,
For the loving could last all night.
I am waiting for your return,
To my arms, to my heart,
For my time is drawing near,
So Darling, be home soon.

Walking out the door,
She feared leaving him alone,
After the words he said so softly,
Stuck in her mind all night.
She saw him cry and saw him smile,
But the words seemed surreal.

Midway through the party,
She heard the words again,
Haunting and gentle, as his voice quivered.
Not long after a second drink,
His words entered again,
As this is what he said.

Darling, be home soon.
For the loving could last all night.
I am waiting for your return,
To my arms, to my heart,
For my time is drawing near,
So darling, be home soon.

She left her party so early,
Almost crying when she left her friends.
Her man is in need,
And she isn't sure of why,
He said the words that haunt her.
Tonight, maybe now and forever.

Opening the door,
She sees him lying on the sofa.
Still and quiet he is there,
But as she kisses him something is not right,
As he has crossed over to the great beyond,
With the words that will haunt her forever.

Darling, be home soon.
For the loving could last all night.
I am waiting for your return,
To my arms, to my heart,
For my time is drawing near,
So darling, be home soon.

The Wolf Returns

Dark shadows silently fall,
Across a forest once so bright.
As a large yellow moon,
Arises over the land below.
A song of loneliness staggers the night,
For there she sits atop the jagged rocks,
That overlooks a placid pool of water.
Still more voices of the night will join her,
With magical notes of their own.

She is strong, fast and agile,
With powerful legs which carry her home.
As she hunts, searches and supplies,
Those tender morsels of survival.
She is a leader,
With a mind of superior intellect.
Guiding the many, aiding very few,
During the light of day,
Until the moon arise once more.

The wolf is truly majestic,
A spectacular best of life,
A testament of the wild.
Every creature knows her song,
Revisited each and every night.
Her stage is the forest green,
Where the night play's out so true.
She is a sleek creation,
The strong one, the lonely wolf.

The Pen is My Sword

For in my heart,
I shall always hear,
That voice so gentle,
A voice that is so clear.
You speak to me everywhere,
Taking me to newer challenges,
That guides the heart and soul.

And yet in my mind,
Words can form many lines.
Poems of life love and dreams.
Never to be read,
And yet sometimes to be shared.
With the eyes of those who seek.
The night is mine and the day is gone.

The pen is my sword,
Conjuring words that can fill the heart.
Peaceful and joyous,
Occasionally hurting the soul within.
For the times will dictate,
The pains that I feel.
Down through the ages of time.

Unknown Soldiers

Across the battlefields,
Bodies lie lifeless,
During the ravages of war.
Gallantly the solders cry out,
From the shrapnel invading their lives.
They pray that help will arrive,
To save the lifeline draining away.
For the one's who make it,
They have the scars for life,
Carrying them as a reminder not needed.
Then there are the unknown,
Left behind, not even a hint of what they gave,
For the fight that will eventually be won.
Certainly names they have,
With families who are left wondering,
Just where do they lie, alone.
For these are the men and women,
Giving of themselves in a patriotic way,
Unattended and not forgotten,
When the fight draws to an end.
We remember them one and all,
Lying in an unmarked grave somewhere out there.
God Bless the unknown soldiers,
Fighting for peace for all,
Until the light of day is near.

Simple Things

Young at heart
Without a care in the world
Playing a little baseball
Or maybe riding that first bike
These are the simple things in life.

Swimming in a creek
Catching some tadpoles
Or even those elusive butterflies
Pleasures of young children
So many years ago
Seeing the simple things of life.

Playing with those toys
Every girl and boy gets at Christmas
Finding that first penny
Or earning that first Dollar
For a job well done
So happy are the simple things in life.

We grow up to fast
Learning a great deal as we go
As one day we pass along the stories
Of our sometimes forgotten youth
Dreams are created, some may continue on
As we long for the simple things of life.

Show me the Dream

On the night he left
Where the stars crashed into the sea
Her heart blocked her throat
As she said good-bye to her man
He opened and quietly said

Show me the dream
That lives within your sole
Give me the love
Where I can return to thy side
Once the tour is done

Her cheeks were stained with tears
When the plane left the tarmac
Gone for ten months
Fighting a war that shouldn't be
When his words enter her mind

Show me the dream
That lives within your sole
Give me the love
Where I can return to thy side
Once the tour is done

Months passed on by
As the tour is near an end
She gets word that he is missing
In a land that is mysterious
For his words ring loud and clear

Show me the dream
That lives within your sole
Give me the love
Where I can return to thy side
Once the tour is done

Waiting nearly killed her
But the news was so good
He is on his way home
Alive and well
For the words mean so much more

Show me the dream
That lives within your sole
Give me the love
Where I can return to thy side
Once the tour is done

He walks in the door
Her arms waiting his love
As he smiles a sweet smile
That warmed her aching heart
Where his words are so true

Show me the dream
That lives within your sole
Give me the love
Where I have returned to your side
Now the tour is done

Thank you

Two elderly gentlemen
Sit talking in a local café
Reminiscing over their lives
Wondering about what might have been
While sipping on their morning java
Smiling as the words go to and fro

When the most senior of the two
Looks up to the heavens to say
Thank you lord
For the life I am living
And the many years of tears and joy
While the seconds tick quickly by

Thank you lord
For the love of my life
Though her hair has turned silver
And the steps she takes are much slower
She still looks so fine
With her eyes of sky blue

Thank you Lord
For my children
Scattered over the globe
Like the leaves in the wind
I remember their questions
Of love, life and many other things

With that you could see
Tears streaming down his wrinkled face
While the memories flowed like wine
He smiled a crooked smile
With one final look to the stars
He slowly whispered again; Thank you

The Dark

A darkened room
Where she lays locked in solitude
Her auburn hair in a ponytail
Left sweaty from the time she spends alone

Her face is stained from the tears
Which she sheds over her misery?
The pain left by her lover
The memories stain her mind

No light engulfs her life
As the heart that is broken
Turns ice cold like the icebergs of the north
Now her mumblings irritate her voice

A voice clouds her dreams
Begging the lady to move on
Not to dwell in utter dependence
Of the lady who left her behind

A sunny day has arrived
To pick her out of the rubble
Where her life is to start anew
With her love that realizes her mistake

The room is no longer dark
Her heart now is warm
Drawing passion from her friend
Her lover that awakened her soul

Strangers Again

Tonight, she lies there sleeping
Longing for something new
Hoping that it will keep her around
The feelings are gone,
But the desire is in tact
As we are strangers again

I walk the streets without you
Seeing your eyes in every woman I meet
My heart cries for the love
My eyes sting from the salty brine
As the desire drives me back
To us we are strangers again

A spark has opened the fires
The touch is warm and pleasant
The heart skips a beat
Our eyes no longer burn
Our desire is forever ending
As we are strangers no more

The Questions

She sat there sobbing softly
As I recall the days we had
When she asked me some questions
That lives inside me this day

Will you give me your heart?
For the time we love one another
Can I always count on you?
Until heaven comes calling us home

Do you want to hold me?
When the night falls upon us
Will you dry my tears?
Once sorrow settles in

Can I lean on your shoulders?
When I feel alone and weak
Will you caress my hands?
As you walk through this world with me

And as I sit by your side
To comfort your troubled mind
You have my undivided support
That will transcend every barrier

Allow me to dry those tears
To bring a smile upon your pretty face
Hold on tight as I help you now
For my love this is my goal for you

The questions I will always answer
To you as into the future
Never hesitate, ask me every time
For my heart is you're open and true
